Port of Beirut revenue fell
REVENUE of the Port of Beirut was down 39.65 per cent in July 2021 to US$6.52 million, compared to $10.8 million in 2020, reports Saudi financial house Blominvest.

Total container activity including transshipment fell yearly 18.6 per cent to stand at 55,072 TEU, with transshipment activity alone declining 33.9 per cent year on year to 15,142 TEU by July. Container activity (TEU) decreased by 10.7 per cent to 39,930 TEU over the same period.
The transshipment volume of CMA CGM, one of the two major shipping lines operating at the Port of Beirut, dropped 31.4 per cent to 11,397 TEU by July.
The transshipmentactivity of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) increased 30.02 per cent year on year to 1,412 TEU by July.
More than 100 were killed and 4,000 injured August 4, 2020 when a cache of ammonium nitrate in the port exploded, showering broken glass city-wide over 750,000 residents.
